Inspiration For the Day

Today I went to the Museum of Sex. (I went once 6 years ago when there was a pin up exhibit, which inspired my pin up girl obsession) I found the exhibit "Comics Stripped" inspiring. A lot of the illustrations were beautiful especially those by John Willie.

  1. Miss Amelia, I have a question of utmost importance for you. It has been my dream (for years and years) to be able to sew, and I've now saved up a little cushion to buy my first machine. I cannot spend over 300 dollars. I've read the reviews of countless Singers... but I don't think I can trust anyone that can't spell the few simple words required to give their opinion of a sewing machine. In addition to that, almost every article contradicts what i read in the previous one. As someone with a respectable bit of experience in this area, what would you suggest? Do you have a favorite brand, or even better, can you recommend a specific model? As for what I'd like to use my sewing machine for... I'd like to gradually learn how to sew (i know a little bit), learn about fit, and make simple dresses at my leisure. (Translation, I will pretend it's leisurely, because that will make me feel better about all of my crooked hems and ruined fabric, but I will actually be sewing like a maniac and trying to make masterpieces... which will turn out looking like simple dresses.) So, I need a machine like that. Let me know what you think.

  2. I would not go with a Singer!! Unless it was an antique Singer featherweight. I hear those are great but also a lot of money.

At school we used Juki machines. I am also looking into buying a machine and the one I am thinking of would be the JUKI HZL-35Z Sewing Machine.
Amazon has it for under $300. It is not the cheapest one, but it seems to be the best reviewed and best for a beginner.

    I hope that helps!!
